Henry Emmons, MD

Co-Founder | CEO

Welcome, and thank you so much for joining us!

I’m Henry Emmons, and I consider myself a holistic psychiatrist. I’ve spent my entire career gathering the knowledge, experience, and skills that I now want to share with you. I am a skilled clinician, a mindfulness teacher, a speaker, a workshop leader and an author. But my heart is that of a healer, and I hope that comes across even in my books, The Chemistry of Joy and The Chemistry of Calm. Most of my work these days centers around resilience, which I see as a key to natural mental health. I believe resilience is an innate gift—you were born with it and you still have it, no matter how you might feel right now. It is our goal to help you keep it, strengthen it, or restore it, depending on your need. My promise to you is to do what I believe I do best: to blend science with soul to help you sustain a healthy mind, mood and heart.

Co-Founder | Chief Brand Officer

Warm greetings to all of you! I am an “integrative/holistic” board-certified developmental/behavioral pediatrician and have been working with kids, teens, and families in the Twin Cities for the past 27 years. My areas of expertise include functional medicine, nutrition, vitamins and supplements, mindfulness meditation, biofeedback, medical hypnosis, aromatherapy, Reiki, and self-regulation skills training for all ages. One important goal in my work is to teach children, teens, and adults to learn more skills and to take less pills.

As the previous Medical Director of Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, I co-created one of the first full-service Integrative Pediatrics Programs in North America. My current focus is on providing holistic mental health for kids, teens, and families as Medical Director for the Integrative Medicine Program at PrairieCare Medical Group.

I also love translating ideas about complementary and alternative therapies into materials more user-friendly for children and have written four books for kids on holistic self-care (see below!).

Greetings! I truly hope you find NMH to be a helpful resource for your wellbeing. I'm passionate about natural mental health resources not only because they're accessible and scientifically-sound, but they've also been the key to my own healing journey.

My research work has focused on integrative healing therapies (i.e., mind-body practices and yoga) for wellbeing and to reduce symptoms of chronic stress, anxiety, and depression. My studies have also focused on the utilization of technology to communicate and deliver preventive health practices in more accessible and innovative ways. I'm also certified in a variety of wellness systems & practices (NASM CPT, E-RYT 500, PYT-500, Healing Touch, Reiki, & group fitness).

My health leadership work has been shaped and supported by organizations and awards such as: Stanford's Compassion and Technology Award, SOFIA public health award, the National Science Foundation, MIN-CORPS, and several research fellowships. I was also honored to serve as a Dalai Lama Fellow, a highly competitive global initiative that aims to build and support a network of social innovators who skillfully blend ethics, contemplative values, and compassion into social innovation. The fellowship is personally authorized by the Fourteenth Dalai Lama.
