It has been well-established that a variety of mind-body (MB) techniques, including yoga, mental imagery, hypnosis, biofeedback, and meditation, are effective at addressing symptoms such as pain, anxiety, nausea, and insomnia, as well as helping with a wide variety of medical, emotional, and behavioral issues in pediatric populations. In addition, MB skills can also be health promoting in the long-term, and with regular practice, could potentially contribute to longer attention spans, social skills, emotional regulation, and enhanced immune system functioning. Congrats to our very own Dr. Culbert for his award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)! Here's what the AAP had to say:

The American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Integrative Medicine (SOIM) is excited to announce the recipient for their prestigious Section Award, Pioneer in Integrative Medicine to Dr. Timothy Culbert. SOIM created an annual award recognizing a pioneer in pediatric integrative medicine. SOIM would like to raise awareness by publicly acknowledging key figures who have advocated for pediatric CAM research, education and clinical care. This is the first award of its kind in pediatrics and the 4th year SOIM has handed out a section award.

Dr. Culbert is board certified in developmental-behavioral pediatrics and has training in medical hypnosis, biofeedback, functional medicine, nutrition, aromatherapy, integrative psychiatry and Reiki. Greetings, Resilient friends! It’s me, Tim! Here’s the dirt on NMH…

Henry and I  have collaborated for many years and share a passion for promoting “Natural Mental Health” for all ages (our bios are over here). Though we can go toe-to-toe on scientific jargon, experts often agree that I'm more handsome and vibrant than Henry (let’s see what Henry comes back with…).

We first met when I took a class that Henry was teaching called A Year of Living Mindfully. I wasn’t initially sold on the mindfulness stuff… or the year. “I won’t make it three months!” I cried. Fast forward some years and we’re now close friends and present lectures, workshops, and programs together on topics such as resilience across the lifespan, mindfulness and natural therapies for mental health, and resilience training for teens and adults.
